Having optimized our share of the domestic market, we also have a distribution network that reaches deep into the African continent. We may have become bigger, but we still know that the small things count.
Our current manufacturing facilities are imported from world class engineering firms abroad to obtain a level of technical expertise and quality in our products that is unsurpassed in the southern African market. Costs are still kept low, however, and prices remain extremely competitive. We offer more value and long term commitment than any of our competitors.
Even before the advent of the governments’ capital subsidy scheme for economically disadvantaged people, Clotan Steel had been involved with the housing process. Incremental housing systems and low cost roofing products like the “Clotan roof kit” have been developed. Due to the cost effectiveness and practical nature thereof. Clotan’s products and successful marketing have played a major part in replacing timber with steel in vast segments of this market. This has contributed directly to the surface area per house that could be provided within the subsidy on mass housing projects. Operating in a developing economy, we judge the supply of our products and the structuring of our credit policy to be “development financing” and view our involvement with our customers as an investment rather than just a sale.
The heart of Clotan Steel consists of its employees who have increased from the initial four that got it under way. The process of job creation by scanning the environment continuously for new opportunities is still under way. |
