The Clotan Roof Kit is a custom designed steel roof delivered in complete prefabricated kits to site.It works as follows: On a particular project, Clotan Steel would be tasked to determine the most cost effective roof for the intended surface area. Factors like sheeting thickness and profile, purlin spacing, spanning widths of different steel purlins and trusses, economic overhangs etc. are all taken into consideration in their different combinations in order to provide the most cost effective roof possible, instead of focusing exclusively on the cost or design of individual items. More importantly, the roof is analysed both from a design and cost view. This complete roof is delivered to site in a kit. Site administration is thus simplified as the whole roof is ordered and delivered, already comprising of all the necessary materials to erect a complete roof. (From roofing wire to roofing screws packed individually per house, roof sheeting, pre-manufactured purlins, trusses, and the engineer's design of the roof!) The contractor is thus released from the task of co-ordinating the timely delivery of all the different roofing materials.

Complete pre-cranked (30 degrees) 0.40 ISQ300/ 0.50 ISQ550 / 0.5 ISQ550 Colour one side IBR Roofsheeting. All necessary steel lipped channels. Purlins pre-painted with a Zinc Chromate primer. Clotan Steel eave purlins (steel wall plate), pre-painted with a Zinc Chromate primer. One bag of the correct number of roofing screws per roof. One roll of roofing wire per roof.   Engineer design of roof kit.

The 0.40 ISQ300 and 0.50 ISQ550 are available in IBR ; WIDESPAN and CORRUGATED profiles, cut to length.  The option to have the sheeting pre-cranked beforehand makes the installation of the roof a lot quicker and simpler  and has the following advantages: No ridging is required, thus decreasing the time to erect the roof. The amount of dust blowing into the house through the ridge area is reduced. The time required to erect the roof is reduced As the result of the roof being erected faster, more roofs can be erected and the labour cost is reduced considerably.

Steel purlins consist of one continuous cold rolled lipped channel, cut to length, with the ability to structurally carry the load of the roof.  The amount , size and the length of the steel purlins are determined by the design of each individual house.  Some of the advantages of steel purlins are: Steel is not usually used as firewood. Steel does not bend when exposed to heat or rain. Steel does not split or break. Steel is delivered cut to any length required. Steel is stronger than timber, spans further and carries more weight, therefore fewer steel sections are needed as would be the case with timber. Steel does not rot and does not need to be painted with Carbolineum/Creosote on site. Steel supplied in a Clotan Roof Kit is delivered pre-painted with a highly corrosive resistant Zinc Phosphate primer in a grey colour. Steel roofs, considered as a whole, are more cost-effective than timber roofs.

The kit also contains a Clotan eave purlin. This purlin ireplaces the traditional timber wall plate, and has the following advantages: Due to the smaller size of the eave purlin the quantity of beam filling is drastically reduced thus saving cost and decreasing cracking. Time and money are saved because no cutting, joining or painting of wall plates are necessary on site. The eave purlin is painted with one coat Zinc Chromate primer which prevents corrosion thus eliminating  the repeated use of carbolineum as on timber wall plates. The roof attaches far better to the steel eave purlin than to a timber wall plate and has been proven to be  more wind resistant. Important :  All Steel purlins are pre-painted with Zinc Chromate Primer , thus no paint and labour for painting are necessary on site.

Included in the Clotan Roof kit are the following accessories: The correct number of roofing screws, packed in separate bags. A choice of Hook Bolts, Tex screws and Top Speed screws are available at the same cost. One roll of roof wire ( 5Kg x 3.13mm ) to attach the purlins to the house. Engineer's design for the roof.

To facilitate getting started, we will assist with training for your carpenters during the initial stages of the project. Should Clotan Roof Kits be purchased for the whole project, Clotan will provide roofing templates to assist in the roofing process. These roofing templates are frames which are shaped according to your roof's specific dimensions.  The templates are used to simplify the process of building purlins into the gable walls.
